Amani is her name, and she is a student at Chicago State University for the Women's Breakfast with Provost Dr. Angela Henderson. Amani saw the "United Women" painting on the Chicago State University website on the morning of the event and came to campus three hours before her class time so she could meet the artist who painted this at the Women's Breakfast event hosted by Provost Henderson.
She felt the image was inclusive, and reminded her that her community is loved and represented by American people and Chicago State University, especially in this time under our current national leadership.
She brought me a gift, and asked me to sign her favorite hijab that she wears to represent the university. Even knowing that this "United Women" painting means something of that value to her, is a huge blessing to me. I am grateful. This was after I cried.
